When You Get There...

Jeremiah 18:1-2 MSG
God told Jeremiah, “Up on your feet! Go to the potter’s house. When you get there, I’ll tell you what I have to say.”

Man, I love a plan. Whether it's a plan for a party, trip, event, whatever... There's nothing like a step by step, well thought out plan to achieve the goal.

I guess more than loving a good plan, I love KNOWING the plan. And the opposite? I hate not knowing the plan. I feel uneasy, uncomfortable, vulnerable not knowing what's going on or what's up ahead.

And yet, God so many times with individuals in the Bible does not reveal the whole plan. Oh, HE has a plan. No doubt about that. But HE usually doesn't share the whole, complete, step by step plan.

Here, HE tells Jeremiah to go to the Potters House "and when you get there, I'll tell you what to do." WHEN YOU GET THERE... When you've been faithful with the first step. The simplest step. WHEN YOU GET THERE...

My, how I've struggled at times to even get THERE. My heart swirls with "Well, tell me what is gonna happen when I get there?" "Will you ask me to do something to hard? "Will you embarrass me? "Will ask me to sacrifice something I hold too dear?"

Inevitably, HE doesn't answer my questions. HE doesn't show me the plan. What HE does is remind me of how HE has always taken care of me. How HE has been merciful, faithful and awesome. And HE reminds me of every time I have applied faith and taken the first step, HE has always been there to direct me to the next move.

I think of Abram and God telling him to just, "Go." That was it. "Go."

I think of Joseph and his dreams. He had no clue how it would come about. He had no full plan laid out in front of him.

I think of the disciples. All Jesus said was, "Follow me."

Specifically, I think of Peter eager to walk on the water and with only one word—no ten point plan of how it was going to be accomplished—with one word Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water. "Come."

I think of Jesus' followers who where told to "Stay" in Jerusalem. To "Wait for the gift."

Yea, I still struggle when HE speaks and gives instructions that seem like a couple pages are missing. But that's part of the process. Isn't it? Because when I do take those steps and obey in faith, HE meets me there and gives me the next part of the plan. HE grows my faith. HE grows inside of me. And I grow deeper in HIM.

So when HE says to us to go, to do, to say... Let's just obey and trust that HE will take care of the rest.
