Fasting: Day 2

Pastor Jesse Atwood

Scrolling through Instagram, I saw a post by Lisa Bevere, that read: "A DIET changes the way you look... a FAST changes the way you SEE!"

In a few short words, that's exactly our goal when we fast. We want to SEE things the way GOD see them. We want our vision, dreams, goals, the way we live our life, the way we handle obstacles-- to be in line with our Heavenly Father.

A favorite scripture comes to mind from Colossians 3:1-2. The Message version reads: "So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective."

During this 21 Day Fast, don't be absorbed with the things right in front of you. The temporary things. The things that fade.

Instead, LOOK UP! Choose each day to SEE THINGS FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE. Ask yourself: Is this important to God? Does this break HIS heart? Would HE be pleased with this?

I believe, as we as a local church body go through our fast, we will start to see things differently. Our sight will be more focused, more defined. And we will be ready to tackle and conquer whatever God has in store for us in 2016!
